পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণে সরকারের কাছ থেকে নেওয়া ঋণ পরিশোধ শুরু হয়েছে। প্রথম দুই কিস্তির টাকা সরকারকে পরিশোধ করা হয়েছে।বুধবার (৫ এপ্রিল) গণভবনে সরকারপ্রধান শেখ হাসিনা ৩১৬ কোটি ৯০ লাখ ৯৭ হাজার ৪৯ টাকার একটি চেক গ্রহণ করেন। প্রধানমন্ত্রীর হাতে এ চেক তুলে দেন সড়ক পরিবহন ও সেতু মন্ত্রী ওবায়দুল কাদের।
সরকার নিজস্ব অর্থায়নে ৩০ হাজার ১৯৩ কোটি টাকা ব্যয়ে ৬ দশমিক ১৫ কিলোমিটার দীর্ঘ পদ্মা সেতু নির্মাণ করেছে। সেতুটি নির্মাণের ব্যয় সেতু বিভাগকে ধার দিয়েছে সরকারের অর্থ বিভাগ।
আগামী ৩৫ বছরে অর্থাৎ ২০৫৭ সাল পর্যন্ত এক শতাংশ সুদসহ ১৪০টি ত্রৈমাসিক কিস্তিতে ঋণের এই টাকা সরকারকে পরিশোধ করবে সেতু বিভাগ।
