আজ ২১ নভেম্বর বিশ্ব টেলিভিশন দিবস। ১৯২৬ সালের এই দিনে টেলিভিশন উদ্ভাবন করেন জন লোগি বেয়ার্ড। তাঁর এই উদ্ভাবনের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানাতেই ১৯৯৬ সালে জাতিসংঘ এই দিনটিকে বিশ্ব টেলিভিশন দিবস হিসেবে পালনের সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়।
টেলিভিশন আমাদের অত্যন্ত প্রিয় গণমাধ্যম। প্রতিটি ব্যক্তির জীবনে টেলিভিশনের প্রভাব অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এখান থেকে আমরা অনেক কিছু শিখতে পারি, জানতে পারি এবং আমাদের বিনোদন যোগাতেও টেলিভিশন অতুলনীয়। এটি বিনোদনের অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মাধ্যম।
সাম্প্রতিক সময়ের মোবাইল রেভলিউশন এবং ওটিটি প্ল্যাটফর্মের দাপটেও টেলিভিশন মাধ্যমের জনপ্রিয়তায় তেমন কোনও প্রভাব বিস্তার করতে পারেনি। টেলিভিশন প্রথম থেকেই ছিল সর্বপ্রধান গণমাধ্যম। বিশেষত তৃতীয় বিশ্বের দেশগুলোতে যেখানে মোবাইল ব্যবহারকারীদের ৫০ শতাংশেরও বেশি ফিচার ফোন ব্যবহার করেন, স্মার্টফোন নয়, সেখানে টেলিভিশনই বিনোদনের মূল মাধ্যম।
