ঝিনাইদহে ট্রাকের ধাক্কায় ফাতেমা (৫) নামে এক শিশুর মৃত্যু হয়েছে। মঙ্গলবার বিকাল ৩টার দিকে ঝিনাইদহ চুয়াডাঙ্গা সড়কের জেলা কারাগারের সামনে এ দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটে। নিহত শিশু সদর উপজেলার বাড়িবাথান চরপাড়া গ্রামের মাজেদ হোসেনের মেয়ে। এদিকে শিশুটির মৃত্যুর ঘটনার প্রতিবাদে ওই এলাকার বিক্ষুব্ধ লোকজন রাস্তা অবরোধ করে রাখে। এ সময় ব্যস্ত ওই সড়কে দীর্ঘ যানজটের সৃৃষ্ট হয়। পরে পুলিশ গিয়ে উত্তেজিত লোকজনকে বুঝিয়ে পরিস্থিতি শান্ত করে। ঝিনাইদহ ফায়ার সার্ভিসের স্টেশন অফিসার সুমন আলি জানান, দুপুরে শিশু ফাতেমা তার খালুর সাথে বেটারি চালিত ইজিবাইকে আত্মীয় বাড়িতে যাচ্ছিল। তারা ঝিনাইদহ জেলা কারাগারের সামনে এসে গাড়ি থেকে নেমে শিশুর খালু গাড়ি ভাড়া দিচ্ছিলেন আর শিশু ফাতেমা সড়কের উপর দিয়ে দৌড় দিয়ে রাস্তা পারাপারের সময় ঝিনাইদহ গামি একটি ট্রাক তাকে থাক্কা দিলে ঘটনাস্থালেই সে মারা যায়। ঝিনাইদহ সদর থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) শেখ মোহাম্মদ সোহেল রানা এই ঘটনার সত্যতা নিশ্চিত করেন। তিনি বলেন, স্থানীয় লোকজনের সহায়তায় ট্রাকটিকে আটক করা গেলেও চালক পালিয়ে গেছে।
