বিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য আবদুল মঈন খান বলেছেন, বিগত ১৭ বছরের অপশাসনের কারণে ফ্যাসিবাদ দেশ থেকে পালাতে বাধ্য হয়েছে। তারা অকারণে গুলি করে ছাত্রদের প্রাণ নিয়েছে। বন্দুকের গুলি এদেশের ছাত্র-জনতাকে দমাতে পারেনি।
শনিবার (৪ জানুয়ারি) বাগেরহাটের মোরেলগঞ্জ উপজেলায় উন্মুক্ত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভিসি অধ্যাপক ড. এবিএম ওবায়দুল ইসলামের নাগরিক সংবর্ধনায় প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে তিনি একথা বলেন। অধ্যাপক ওবায়দুল ইসলামকে উদ্দেশ্য করে মঈন খান বলেন, ঘরের ছেলে ঘরে ফিরে এসেছে। অনেক বছর আগে মোরেলগঞ্জে পড়াশোনা শেষ করে বাগেরহাটে কলেজে গিয়েছিলেন। তারপর ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পড়াশোনা করে উচ্চ শিক্ষায় শিক্ষিত হয়ে অধ্যাপনায় যুক্ত হন। বর্তমান উন্মুক্ত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভিসি।
অনুষ্ঠানে বিএনপির শিক্ষাবিষয়ক সম্পাদক ও উন্মুক্ত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভিসি বলেন, বিগত সময়ে শিক্ষাব্যবস্থাকে ধ্বংস করা হয়েছে। ফ্যাসিস্ট সরকারের আমলে প্রশ্নফাঁস ছিলো শিল্প। বিগত ১৭ বছরে দেশের উন্নয়নের চেয়ে ব্যক্তির উন্নয়ন হয়েছে। এ সময় নাগরিক সংবর্ধনা দেওয়ায় তিনি সবার প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন। রওশন আরা স্মৃতি মহিলা ডিগ্রী কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ জাহাংগীর আল আজাদের সভাপতিত্বে সংবর্ধনা অনুষ্ঠানে বিএনপির গবেষণা বিষয়ক সম্পাদক কৃষিবিদ শামীমুর রহমান শামীম, গণশিক্ষা বিষয়ক সম্পাদক মোর্শেদ হাসান খান প্রমুখ বক্তব্য দেন। অনুষ্ঠানে ছিলেন ছাত্রদলের কেন্দ্রীয় নেতা, বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক, সাংবাদিকসহ সুশীল সমাজের প্রতিনিধিরা।
