সড়ক দুর্ঘটনার ক্ষেত্রে দেখা গেছে, সমাজের উচ্চ পর্যায়ের যারা দুর্ঘটনার সঙ্গে জড়িত তাদের বিচার হয় না। তারা কোনও ধরনের জবাবদিহির আওতায় আসে না। সাধারণ মানুষের জীবনটাই আসলে যায়- এমন ধারনা তৈরি হয়েছে বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন তথ্য ও সম্প্রচার উপদেষ্টা নাহিদ ইসলাম
শনিবার (২১ ডিসেম্বর) সকালে রাজধানীর রমনায় বাংলাদেশ প্রেস ইনস্টিটিউটে রোড সেফটি ফাউন্ডেশন আয়োজিত সড়ক পরিবহন খাতে শৃঙ্খলা প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক ব্যবস্থাপনা ও কাঠামোগত সংস্কার বিষয়ে জাতীয় সংলাপে প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন। এদিন উপদেষ্টা নাহিদ বলেন, ‘সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা রোধে নীতিনির্ধারণী পর্যায়ে আরও আন্তরিক হওয়া দরকার। সাধারণ মানুষ এর সবচেয়ে বড় ভুক্তভোগী। সম্প্রতি আমরা দেখলাম, বাংলাদেশ প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (বুয়েট) একজন শিক্ষার্থী মারা গেলেন।’
তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘নিয়ম-নীতি না মেনে গাড়ি চালাচ্ছে। এটার পরিবর্তন হওয়া দরকার। সে যেই হোক না কেন, তাকে বিচারের আওতায় আনা কিন্তু সমাজে উদাহরণ তৈরি করে।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘পরিবহণ খাতে দুর্নীতি দূর হয়নি। আগে এক দল দুর্নীতির সঙ্গে জড়িত ছিল, এখন আরেক দল। দুর্নীতি চলমান। ওই জায়গায় আমাদের দুর্নীতি বন্ধ করতে হবে। রাজনৈতিক দলগুলোর একটি দায়িত্বশীল ভূমিকা আসলে প্রয়োজন। কারণ, রাজনৈতিক কর্মীরাই এই ঘটনাগুলোর সঙ্গে জড়িত।’
নাহিদ ইসলাম বলেন, ‘এখানে কাঠামোগত সংস্কার প্রয়োজন। একটা সিস্টেম আমাদের উন্নত করতে হবে। এখন দুর্নীতি বন্ধ করতে হবে রাজনৈতিকভাবে। আমাদের উন্নয়ন নীতিতে মৌলিক পরিবর্তন আনতে হবে।’
অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশ সড়ক পরিবহন কর্তৃপক্ষের (বিআরটিএ) চেয়ারম্যান মো. ইয়াসীন জানান, কোনও পুরাতন বাস রাখা হবে না। সময় দেওয়া আছে, এর মধ্যে ব্যবস্থা নেন।
তিনি বলেন, ‘সড়ক ও ফুটপাত দখলমুক্ত করতে স্থায়ী পরিকল্পনা করা হচ্ছে। উচ্ছেদ করে দেওয়া নয়, পরিকল্পিত সমাধান করার চিন্তা করা প্রয়োজন।’
