সায়মন্ডসের মৃত্যুকে রহস্য
রাতে একা কেন গাড়ি নিয়ে বেরিয়েছিলেন অ্যান্ড্রু সায়মন্ডস? সঙ্গে শুধু পোষা কুকুরই বা কেন? কেনই বা রাস্তা ছেড়ে গেলেন? এমন সব রহস্যের জট খুলতে পারছে না পুলিশ। তবে তদন্ত চালিয়ে যাচ্ছে তারা। অপেক্ষা করছে ময়নাতদন্ত রিপোর্টের।
গত শনিবার রাতে টাউন্সভিল থেকে ৫০ কিলোমিটার দূরে সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় নিহত হন সায়মন্ডস। ৪৬ বছর বয়সী অজি ক্রিকেটারের অকালমৃত্যু রীতিমতো স্তব্ধ করে দিয়েছে পুরো ক্রিকেট বিশ্বকে। রবিবার দুর্ঘটস্থল পরিদর্শনে যান সায়মন্ডসের বোন লুইস সায়মন্ডস। ভাই হারানোর দুঃখে স্বভাবতই বিধ্বস্ত তিনি। তাই সেই জায়গায় নিজের হাতে লেখা একটি চিরকুটও রেখে যান।
চিরকুটে আবেগের বহিঃপ্রকাশ করে লুইস লেখেন, ‘খুব দ্রুতই চলে গেলে। শান্তিতে থাকো অ্যান্ড্রু। আরও একটা দিন যদি আমরা একসঙ্গে কাটাতাম, একবার যদি ফোনে কথা বলতে পারতাম! আমার হৃদয় ভেঙে গেছে। আমি সব সময় তোমাকে ভালোবাসব ভাই।’ অস্ট্রেলিয়ান সংবাদমাধ্যম ডেইলি মেইল অস্ট্রেলিয়াকে গতকাল লুইস জানিয়েছেন, পরিবারকে না জানিয়েই গাড়ি নিয়ে বেরিয়েছিলেন সায়মন্ডস। তিনি বলেন, ‘আমরা জানি না, সে কেন বেরিয়েছিল। ব্যাপারটা ভয়ানক।’
অ্যালকোহলের প্রতি বড্ড আকৃষ্ট ছিলেন সায়মন্ডস। মাতাল থাকায় ২০০৫ সালে কার্ডিফের বিপক্ষে বাংলাদেশের ঐতিহাসিক ম্যাচে তাকে খেলায়নি অস্ট্রেলিয়া। তবে মৃত্যুর আগে মদ্যপ ছিলেন না এই অলরাউন্ডার। এমনটাই জানিয়েছে পুলিশ।
অস্ট্রেলিয়ান সংবাদমাধ্যম চ্যানেল নাইনের সাংবাদিক মিয়া গ্লোভার জানান, রাস্তায় অনেক ব্রেক কষার চিহ্ন দেখতে পান তিনি। সেখান থেকেই উলটে পড়ে সায়মন্ডসের গাড়ি। স্নানীয়দের মধ্যে গুঞ্জন চলছে, একটি প্রাণীর সঙ্গে সংঘর্ষ এড়াতে গিয়েই গাড়ির দিক পরিবর্তন করেন সায়মন্ডস। দুর্ঘটনার পর তাকে প্রাথমিক সিপিআর দিয়েও বাঁচাতে পারেননি এক প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী। তার শেষ মুহূর্তে পাশেই ছিল পোষা কুকুর দুটি। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী বলেন, ‘এর মধ্যে একটি কুকুর ছিল বেশ সংবেদনশীল এবং তাকে ছেড়ে যেতে চাইছিল না। যতবারই আমরা তাকে সরানোর জন্য কাছে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করেছিলাম, ততবারই সে গর্জে ওঠে।
