কালীগঞ্জ শহরজুড়ে এখন শোভা পাচ্ছে বিগত দিনে পৌরসভার বাস্তবায়িত বিভিন্ন উন্নয়নের চিত্র। যার অধিকাংশই মেয়র আশরাফুল আলম আশরাফের সময়ে করা। এগুলোর মধ্যে রয়েছে শহরের অবৈধ স্থাপনা উচ্ছেদ, শহরের ভেতরের রাস্তা প্রসস্থ করা, ফুটপাত দিয়ে জনসাধারণের নির্বিঘেœ চলাচলের জন্য ফুটপাতে টাইস লাগানো, মেইন বাসস্ট্যান্ড থেকে শহরে প্রবেশের রাস্তার ডিভাইডার ও সড়কবাতি লাগানো। এছাড়াও পৌরসভার ময়লা নির্দিষ্ট স্থানে ফেলার জন্য মেয়রের নিজ অর্থায়নে ৬০ শতক জমি কেনা ও পশু জবাইয়ের জন্য নিদিষ্ট জায়গা তৈরি করা। বিশেষ করে সর্ব মহলের কাছে প্রশংসা পেয়েছেন ঝিনাইদহের কালীগঞ্জ পৌর শহরের ভিতর থেকে অবৈধ স্থাপনা উচ্ছেদের মত এমন সাহসী পদক্ষেপ নেবার জন্য। হঠাৎ করে কালীগঞ্জে মোটরসাইকেল দূর্ঘটনা বেড়ে যাওয়ায় পৌর মেয়র গ্রহণ করেন সচেতনা মূলক পদক্ষেপ। এক সময়ের গতি সম্পন্ন ঐতিহ্যবাহী তারামন বিবির খাল যেটা প্রবাহিত ছিল শহরের নলডাঙ্গা রোড থেকে গোহাটার পাশ দিয়ে চিত্রা নদীতে পড়েছিল। প্রভাবশালী ভূমি দস্যুরা সেই খালটি দখল করে কালীগঞ্জের মানচিত্র থেকে নাম নিশানা উঠিয়ে দিয়েছে। স¤প্রতি তিনি পৌর শহরের এই তারামন বিবি খাল উদ্ধারের জন্য আরও একটি সাহসী পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করেছেন। শহরের ভিতর দিয়ে বয়ে চলা চিত্রা নদীর উপর নির্মিত হয়েছে আধুনিক দৃষ্টিনন্দন ব্রীজ। রমজান মাসে শহরের মধ্যে যেনো যানজটের সৃষ্টি হয়ে রোজাদারদের কষ্ট না হয় তার জন্য তিনি নিজেই রাস্তায় দাঁড়িয়ে থেকে গ্রহণ করেছেন বিভিন্ন পদক্ষেপ। রমজান মাসে দ্রব্য মূল্যে বাজার নিয়ন্ত্রণ রাখতে নিয়মিত বাজার মনিটরিং করেছেন তিনি। এই সব সাহসী পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করার জন্য তিনি বিভিন্ন শ্রেণিপেশার মানুষের কাছে প্রশংসায় ভাসছেন। উল্লেখ্য, মেয়র আশরাফুল আলম আশরাফ ২০১৬ সালে বিনা প্রতিদ্বন্দিতায় ৫নং ওয়ার্ড কাউন্সিলর নির্বাচিত হন। ২০১৮ সালে পৌর মেয়র আলহাজ্ব মকছেদ আলীর র্মত্যুর পর ৩ মাস তিনি (ভারপ্রাপ্ত) মেয়রের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। ২০১৯ সালের উপনির্বাচনে নৌকা প্রতিক নিয়ে মেয়র আশরাফুল আলম আশরাফ বিপুল ভোটে বিজয়ী হন। এরপর আবারও ২০২১ সালের ২৮ ফেব্রয়ারীতে নৌকা প্রতিক নিয়ে তিনি ১৮ হাজার ভোটের ব্যবধানে দ্বিতীয় মেয়াদে কালীগঞ্জ পৌর সভার মেয়র নির্বাচিত হন।
