প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ওমানে বাংলাদেশি শ্রমিকদের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করে বলেছেন, বাংলাদেশের পাশাপাশি ওমানের অর্থনীতিতে বাংলাদেশের শ্রমিকদের অবদান রয়েছে। উভয় অর্থনীতিই এই শ্রমশক্তির দ্বারা উপকৃত হচ্ছে।
বৃহস্পতিবার (৪ জুলাই) গণভবনে ওমানের রাষ্ট্রদূত আবদুল গাফফার বিন আবদুল করিম আল বুলুশি শেখের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎকালে প্রধানমন্ত্রী এ কথা বলেন।
ওমানের রাষ্ট্রদূত বাংলাদেশি শ্রমশক্তির অবদান সম্পর্কে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর মন্তব্যের প্রতিধ্বনি করে বলেন, এটা সত্য যে তারা (বাংলাদেশি শ্রমিক) উভয় অর্থনীতির জন্য কাজ করছে।
বৈঠক শেষে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর প্রেস সচিব মোহাম্মদ নাঈমুল ইসলাম খান সাংবাদিকদের এই তথ্য জানান। প্রেস সচিব বলেন, রাষ্ট্রদূত উল্লেখ করেছে, ওমান দীর্ঘকাল ধরে ৭ শতাংশ জিডিপি প্রবৃদ্ধি বজায় রাখছে এবং আশা করা হচ্ছে দুই-অঙ্কের স্তরের প্রবৃদ্ধি অর্জন করবে। তিনি বলেন, ‘আগামী দিনে জিডিপি প্রবৃদ্ধি দ্বিগুণ হতে পারে।’
প্রধানমন্ত্রী এবং রাষ্ট্রদূত উভয়েই এলডিসি পরবর্তী সময়ের জন্য বাংলাদেশের প্রচেষ্টার পরিপূরক হিসেবে ওমানের পক্ষ থেকে বাংলাদেশকে সমর্থন করার বিষয়েও আলোচনা করেন।
বাংলাদেশিদের ওপর ভিসা ইস্যুতে নিষেধাজ্ঞার বিষয়ে আল-বুলুশি বলেন, আসলে প্রায় ১০ লাখ বাংলাদেশি জনশক্তি তাদের শ্রমবাজারে কাজ করছে। এটি বিশেষ করে বাংলাদেশের জন্য নয়, আমরা শ্রমের চাহিদা পূরণের জন্য পর্যায়ক্রমে শ্রমবাজার পর্যালোচনা করি। সেই পর্যালোচনার ভিত্তিতে, কখনও কখনও আমরা এমন দেশগুলোতে স্থগিতাদেশ দিয়ে থাকি যেখানে অতিরিক্ত সংখ্যক জনশক্তি রয়েছে। স্থগিতাদেশ সহজ করার জন্য আপনাকে পরবর্তী পর্যালোচনা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করতে হবে।
রাষ্ট্রদূত বলেন, বিধিনিষেধের উপায় দেখে মনে হচ্ছে- বাংলাদেশের ওপর ব্যাপকভিত্তিক ভিসা নিষেধাজ্ঞা দেওয়া হয়েছে। আসলে কিন্তু তেমন নয়। তবে বাকি সব ভিসা যেমন- ফ্যামিলি ভিসা এবং ট্যুরিস্ট ভিসা খোলা আছে। বাংলাদেশিদের জন্য দশটি ক্যাটাগরির ওমানের ভিসা এখন উন্মুক্ত।
এই প্রসঙ্গে রাষ্ট্রদূত বাংলাদেশের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে তার সরকারের কাছে একটি অনুরোধপত্র পাঠানোর আহ্বান জানিয়ে বলেন, এতে তিনি বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে তার ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্তৃপক্ষের সাথে বিষয়টি নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে সক্ষম হবেন।
সার আমদানির বিষয়ে রাষ্ট্রদূত জানান, তার সরকার ব্যবস্থাটি জি-টু-জি ভিত্তিতে করার প্রস্তাব করেছেন। জবাবে প্রধানমন্ত্রী বলেন, বাংলাদেশ সরকার প্রস্তাবটি খতিয়ে দেখবে।
ওমানের রাষ্ট্রদূত শেখ হাসিনার নেতৃত্বের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করেন এবং পুনরায় নির্বাচিত হওয়ার জন্য তাকে অভিনন্দন জানান। তিনি বলেন, শেখ হাসিনার যোগ্য নেতৃত্বে বাংলাদেশ মধ্যম আয়ের দেশে উন্নীত হবে।
